Vile Couchaffe

The Royal Army has once again driven foes from our territory. As our forces approached the eastern frontier they were set upon by hordes of horsemen. It has been reported that more that three fourths of the enemy army was mounted, in addition to a considerable light artillery force which was entirely horse drawn.

Our infantry formed an impenetrable line of muskets with the small border hamlet of goodengooden as an anchor. The cossacks formed up on the extreme left while the Mounted Guards drew up on a defensive hill to the right of the hamlet. It has to be said that despite the force match-up our cavalry generals were feeling particularly valerous. Perhaps this was due to wanting to disprove the enemy's undeserved reputation as cavalry supremos.

The enemy split his force into 3 parts; the main part opposite our cossacks, a paltry force of infantry in his centre and small command of horse opposite our mounted Guards. His artillery was evenly split between the flanks.

Due to the superior mobility of the enemy, Rechtflenker's initial plan was to sit defensively and let the enemy impale himself upon our bayonets. However, the Couchaffers dallied in their advance and Von Krumm of the Horse Guards was unable to resist striking at the isolated force opposite him. Rechtflenker drew the cossacks in behind the infantry line and charged off to lend his support to where the action was. Krussian infantry can look after themselves!

Von Krumm himself was struck down and the Guards were heavily engaged, but our assault won through and the entire enemy left wing was routed without a loss - capturing his artillery in the process - Rechtflenker again living up to his name. The remaining enemy army turned to pursue our victorious Horse Guards, but unable to catch them they quit the field disheartened.

Shunning artillery as the tool of cowards the captured battery has again been melted down and cast into a giant bust of the victorious Rechtflenker, flanked by the valiant Von Krumm.

Grim news indeed comes from the south. The towns and villages of Lichtengrein are being ravaged as the Dreikoller columns rampage unchecked through their lands. To keep his army in being Prince Rupert avoids battle with a skill that would make Fabius Maximus proud. The King has decided that such a state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue. The royal army shall try to teach the rebels a lesson and to bring peace to at least a section of Lichtengrein. The drums of war beat again.

Prince Rupert is most pleased to hear of the repulse of the mounted scourge of Couchaffe and the warming of relations between Krussia and his nation.

Meanwhile, Lichtengrein's monarch musters new recruits on his trip to Versailles but has received the couriers message to leave with all possible haste back to the principalities seat of power.

In his absence, the principalities army is being formed up, reportedly of the disciplined Foreign regulars in the Prince's pay, but the militia forces clamour for revenge after the debacle that was their first battle - having been let down by the recently sacked commander of the Guard, Count Dimwitz.

An encounter with Dreikoller columns awaits the yellow and blue legions of Lichtengrein.

Interesting times!

But, who were these mysterious enemies who unwisely challenged the Might of Krussia?

Intringuing, really intringuing...

Thanks for the map of the 'Theatre of Operations', as pleasant as useful.

Now, Lichtengrein seems to have a special alliance with NordMark: I suppose this last country is off-map, maybe North-West to Hangover?

Whishing to discover the uniforms of Krussia, Dreikoller, Couchaffe... and any other belligerant (as drawings / colored templates if the troops are not yet fully available 'in their [painted metal or plastic] flesh).

Cheers,
Jean-Louis

the map is pretty neat. it comes courtesy of Prince Rupert (as he's the one with the artistic talent). no uniforms yet, as they're not finished. we're playing with surplus figures until they're ready.
Nordmark is off map, bordering Lichtengrein, and there's a nation on the far side of dreikoller called Waldstein. they've been skirmishing a bit, but no battle reports unfortunately.
